Canada Hols - Ketchikan Alaska

Tuesday morning at 7am we arrived at Ketchikan, Alaska's first city. Although we had marked activities, as we went out to investigate the area, Darryl found a self-guided walking tour, which we started. We saw an eagle sitting in a tree beside the river, and enjoyed the historical part of town, called Creek Street. There were lots of totem poles, but we didn't see any salmon (apart from the smoked and dried types for sale to the tourists). When we got to the West End, we met a local who told us about a walking track back up high behind the town, and we took it to get great photos of the channel. There was one other cruise ship near ours, and, it seemed, another closer to the main part of town. Initially, we were a little concerned about bears, but were reassured by another couple of locals we met along the path. We had to be back on board by 2:30, but we arrived back earlier, I had my appointment for the free hot-rocks massage at 2:15. This was quite enjoyable, but she didn't get the knot out of the left side of my spine, and then, of course, she tried to sell me more massages, and a 'home-care' package of expensive lotions (which I declined). After dinner, we had thought we would go to a comedy show, but were so enthralled watching whales and dolphins off the outside decks, and crow's nest, that we didn't get a chance to see it.
